Merritts , James D., 77, Somerset, formerly of Johnstown. Passed on to eternal rest on Feb. 20, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born Feb. 15, 1934, in Johnstown. Son of the late Lewis and Rose (Eash) Merritts. Also preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Dallas Merritts; and brother-in-law, Charles “Bill” Watt. Survived by wife of 51 years, the former Patricia M. (Hillegas); children; James B., married to the former Betty (Ream), Newport News, VA.; Kimberly D., wife of Gregory Hughes, Lititz, PA.; Amber M. Merritts, Johnstown; and Lisa, New Jersey. Grandchildren; Gregory, David, Bryan and Ashley. Great Grandchild, Alexis. Brother of Donald, married to the former Shirley (Fritzinger), Johnstown; Jack, married to the former Sandra (Wilkinson), Johnstown; and sister, Lois Watt, Florida. Brother  in law of James and Carole Hillegas, DE. And Debra and Bill Hansen, Pittsburgh. Also nieces, nephews and friends. Graduate of Westmont High School. Retired from Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp. in the Clerical Dept. Member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was an avid participant and fan of Motocross and racing sports. Friends received from 3-8 pm Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where service will be held at 11 am Wednesday. Rev. Wayne Sedei and Rev. Steve Durr, officiating. Interment at Richland Cemetery. Family suggests contributions to St. Paul’s U.M. Church, 160 Derby St., Johnstown, Pa. 15905, in memory of Jim.
