HOLLIS- James C., 74, of Geistown, died Oct. 23, 2023 at home. Born Feb. 9, 1949 in Johnstown, son of the late James Clifford and Mae (Allison) Hollis. Preceded in death by parents and son, Seth Jeremy Hollis on Feb. 10, 1978. Survived by wife of 54 years, Donna Marie (Geiser); sons, James Ian (Katherine), Shawn Eric (Gloria) and Damian Jon (Keri); grandchildren, James Dominic Hollis, Jakob Hollis, Donovan Hollis, Andrew Hollis, Alexis Hollis, Hunter Chorik, and Brodie and Brock Hollis; great-grandchildren, Emily, Olivia, Alaina, and Emmersyn. James graduated from Richland Township High School in 1968 and he served a 5 year apprenticeship with the Sheet Metal Worker’s Local #12 in Pittsburgh. He attended teaching classes at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio and took advanced classes through Ohio State on OSHA, testing and balancing and asbestos abatement. Jim retired with 43 years as a member of the Sheet Metal Worker’s Local #12 in Pittsburgh where he was a member. He was a company owner, Job and Shop Foreman, Shop Steward, and an apprentice instructor from 1987-2000. During his tenure as instructor, he taught shop, OSHA, air balancing, asbestos abatement and estimating. In 2000, Jim was elected as a business representative for Local #12 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2012. During those years as a business representative, he served as President and Secretary/Treasurer and Steward for the Johnstown Building and Construction Trades Council. In his earlier years, he played guitar for several local bands. Jim was a member of Johnstown Lodge #538, Free and Accepted Masons and Oriental Commandery #61 of The Knights Templar. He occasionally taught Sunday School at Thomas Mennonite Church. He was also an assistant Little League coach at Arbutus and was Assistant Scout Master at Geistown Troop #25. He enjoyed attending sporting events that his grandkids were involved in and helping them to keep their bikes running. He also liked feeding the local raccoon population. He especially loved the times he spent with Donna at Rehoboth Beach. Jim also belonged to the AACA Flood City Chapter, the Flood City Corvette Club and the National Desoto Club. He enjoyed their time at car cruises and trying to keep his best friend, “Charlie” (his 1940 Desoto) and “Piggly Wiggly” (Donna’s 1998 Corvette) polished. He had great times riding with Donna on their Gold Wing motorcycle. The family will receive friends from 2 pm to time of service at 6 pm Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
