James G. Betz

Betz – James G., 92, Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 22, 2017, at the home of his daughter in Wisconsin. Born on March 9, 1925, in Greensburg, PA, son of the late James and Lillian (Snyder) Betz. Also preceded in death by granddaughter, Nancy Wampole; and sister Ella Vivian Wuchina. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, S. Jeannine (Doll) Betz; daughter, Claudia D., wife of Roger Wampole, Eleva, WI; grandchildren, Amanda Tietz and Nick Wampole both of Wisconsin; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, James W. Doll, married to the former Deborah Jessel, who in Jim and Jeannine’s heart was their son since he was 4 months old; and great nieces, Tina, Lisa and Keri, who were all considered granddaughters. James was a S. SGT. in the US Army attached to the 3rd Marine Division serving during WWII in Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Iwo Jima, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was owner and operator of the former Betz Garage, Richland Township for over 13 years. James was a former member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Menoher Post #155 V.F.W. and the Richland American Legion, Post #849. He enjoyed working in his yard. At James’s request there will be no public viewing. A private funeral service will be held at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Larry Dunn, officiating. Interment with military rites by Menoher Post #155 Ritual Team will be at Richland Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to either, Habitat for Humanity, 805 Luray Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15904 or to a local food bank in memory of James.
