Gilkey â Ira J., 65, Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital. Born on June 20, 1949 in Johnstown, son of Edward J. and Arlene J. (Horner) Gilkey, Johnstown. Preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Ira Gilkey; maternal grandfather, Clarence Horner; maternal grandmother, Zora Horner and mother-in-law, Theresa Thomas. He is survived by his loving wife, Denise M. (Thomas) Gilkey, Richland Township; brother, Edward Jr. (Deborah) Gilkey, Geistown Borough; paternal grandmother, Loretta M. Gilkey, Clearwater, FL; father-in-law, Dean Thomas, Richland Township; sisters-in-law, Diane (Michael) Hilands, Robin (Stephen) Omasta, and Tracy (Doug) Gawel all of Johnstown; brother-in-law, Christopher (Nancy) Thomas, Johnstown; and God daughters, Alaina and Marlina Gawel both of Johnstown; nieces and nephews, Amy Gilkey, Kristy Hilands, Jennifer Gilbert, Ryan Thomas, Alison Brandle, Dana Toscano, Nicole Thomas, Michael Hilands, Alyssa and Madison Thomas, Alaina and Marlina Gawel, and great nephew, Noah Gilbert. Ira was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a dedicated employee for 30 years at Sender Ironworks/Lockpaver Products, Tanneryville. Ira had a great passion and knowledge of all sports. While coaching little league and softball teams, and managing AAABA teams for Dr. Walker and Coca-Cola, he touched many lives and was a role model to his players. He continued relationships with many of them over the years. Ira was an avid Steeler, Pirate, Penguin, and NY Yankee fan. Those who love him know that he adored his nieces and nephews. One of his greatest thrills was sharing his love of the Yankees with a trip to Yankee Stadium with his wife and niece, Alaina. Ira enjoyed a wonderful life with his wife of 23 years and family. His fighting spirit and love of life are beyond measure. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric P. Kabler officiating. Interment will be at Richland Cemetery.
