Knapp â Helen M., 91, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Born on May 30, 1923 in Central City, PA, daughter of Stanley J. and Mary B. (Pieczonka) Pasierb. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John A. Knapp; daughter, Anita Knapp; siblings, Bronoslawa, Stanley, Stephen, and Joseph. She is survived by her loving daughter, Joanne A. Knapp, Johnstown; siblings, Sophie Sankovitch, Central City, PA, Edward J., married to the former Patricia Callahan, South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Genevieve F. Harwood, Frederick, MD, and Agnes L., wife of John Lorenzen, Evansville, IN; sister-in-law, Leila Pasierb, Matamoras, PA; numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew and Godson, Robert âButchâ Sankovitch who was always there for Helen, and her beloved pet, Zoe Sue. Helen was a pedigreed Devil Dog with the US Marine Corps. serving during WW II. In 1992 she was inducted into the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor, Valley Forge, PA. Helen was a charter member for the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Arlington, VA. Helen was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, Geistown Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary; Cambria County Volunteer Firemenâs Company Ladies Auxiliary; Womenâs Marine Association and The Conemaugh Valley Marine Corps. League Detachment #287, where she past Marine of the Year. Helen was a LPN at the former Lee Hospital and later retired from Hiram G. Andrews Center after 20 years of service as a Nurse and Occupational Therapy Aide. She enjoyed traveling, crafts and was an avid bowler for many bowling leagues. Helen was a loving person who would do anything for anybody. She was a wonderful mother, sister and friend. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held and a Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. by the Conemaugh Valley Marine Corps. League Detachment #287. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at Richland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Conemaugh Valley Marine Corps. League Detachment #287.
