Gwendolyn J. Volk

Volk, Gwendolyn J., “Gwen”, 84, of East Taylor Township, went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2014 at her residence. Born on October 4, 1929 in Johnstown, daughter of Harvey N. and Ona (Reffner) Teeter. Preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Geraldine Fetterman and Fay Hart. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, John E. Volk, East Taylor Township; son, Paul G., married to the former Gloria J. Mountain, East Taylor Township; daughter, Susan J., wife of Todd Brown, Cape May, NJ; grandson, David J. Volk, Millville, NJ and several nieces and nephews. Gwen was a 1947 graduate of Conemaugh High School. She was her husband, John’s, secretary while he was employed delivering mail for the USPS and later at Volk Appliance Service. Gwen was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she took care of the Track Ministry. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flower bed, swimming and reading. Gwen loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson, David. At Gwen’s request there will be no public viewing. Private burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. David Streets officiating. The family is being served by the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh.
