Gordon D. Smith

Smith, Gordon Drummond, 77, of Hollidaysburg, PA, formerly of (Westmont) Johnstown, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on August 20, 2023 at UPMC Altoona after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. Gordon was born June 17, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA to Florence and Alexander Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lewis Clyde and Alexander, and wife of 45 years, Marjorie (Schippers) Smith. Gordon is survived by daughters Courtney (Tres) Kelly of Emmitsburg, MD and Stacey (Bob) Basso of San Francisco, CA, grandchildren Grant, Allison, Lauren and Alayna Kelly and Julia and Emilia Basso, and his beloved Dede Kazmaier and her son Christopher (Jessica) of Harrisburg, PA. Gordon studied business at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana where he met Marjorie and later earned his MBA from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Gordon began his career in banking at Girard Bank in Philadelphia before moving to Johnstown to serve as President of Johnstown Bank & Trust. In December 1989, Gordon proudly opened the doors of Highland Financial, Ltd. where he spent 33 years providing financial advising services to the greater Johnstown community. Gordon was a life-long learner who was committed to providing a variety of services to his clients, both as a chartered financial consultant (ChFC) and licensed realtor. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Gordon volunteered tirelessly within his community. Over the years, he served on numerous Boards of Directors including the Girl Scouts, Conemaugh Hospital, Sunnehanna Country Club and the YMCA.  He was an active member of the Westmont Presbyterian Church community, a member of the Westmont Borough Council and School Board. In retirement, Gordon enjoyed a full and vibrant life filled with friends, family, travel and pursuing his interests of gardening and trains.  Gordon will be lovingly remembered as a passionate Scotsman with an appreciation for Scotch libation, a faithful man of God, a Pittsburgh Penguins enthusiast, and most importantly, a committed father, grandfather, partner, community member and friend. Friends will be received by the family at the Westmont Presbyterian Church from 12 - 2pm on Thursday, August 24 with a private interment at Grandview Cemetery to follow. The family invites all to join us at the Blairmont Club in Altoona on Friday, August 25 to celebrate Gordon’s life beginning with a memorial service at 11:00 am followed by lunch and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made in Gordon’s honor to the charity of the giver’s choice. Family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, (Richland), Johnstown.
