MISLANOVICH – George Sr., 94, of Stonycreek Township, passed away on August 21 , 2017 at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, PA. Born on February 22, 1923 in Clairton, PA. Son of Rade and Martha (Vuckovich) Mislanovich. Preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, LaVerne; brothers, Nicholas and Eli; and sisters, Martha Tintor, Jenny Obradovich, and Sara Vitelli. He is survived by children, George Jr. and Judy Mislanovich, both of Johnstown, and David and his wife, Karen, Pittsburgh, PA; granddaughters, Alison (Seth) Shaltes, Richmond, VA, and Kelsey Mislanovich, Philadelphia, PA; and brother Milan. George was a 1941 graduate of Clairton High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts. George then received a Masters Degree in Guidance from Indiana University of PA, and also a degree in Administration from Duquesne University. George started his teaching career at Garfield Jr. High School in 1950 and taught Industrial Arts until 1966. From 1966 to 1970 he was a guidance counselor at Johnstown High School. Later in 1970, he was employed as a guidance counselor at Johnstown Vo-Tech until his retirement in 1985. George also coached football, wrestling, and track while employed at Garfield Jr. High School. While attending California University, he was very active in athletics, lettering 4 years in baseball, 3 years in football, and 3 years in basketball. After retirement, he enjoyed golf, bowling and poker. He was an avid Penn State football fan. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown. Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal with military rites by Conemaugh Valley Detachment. #287, Marine Corps League will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Geistown.
