Hancock, George Welker, 97, Oakland. Went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2016 at home. Born August 11, 1919, in Mount Union, Huntington County. Preceded in death by parents, Edith (Bard) and Tone Hancock; 8 siblings, first wife Josephine M. (Swope) in 1948; second wife Margaret P. (Byrne) in 1994 and longtime companion Ruth Miller in 2015. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by children, Marsha Hancock (Eaken) Altoona; George A. (Brenda) Scalp Level; Bob (Debbie Peterson) Johnstown; Sue (Bob Patas), Newark, Delaware; Timothy (Patti Jo Nauman), Millersville; Edie; Kevin (Partner Dr. Kevin Sheets) Harrisburg.10-Grand Children; and10-Great Grand Children. Employed by Bethlehem Steel as a welder in the Mechanical Division for 30 plus years. Served in the Civilian Conservation Corps 1937-1938.World War II veteran from 1941-1945 Served in the U.S Army Corp in the China, Burma, India campaigns. Member of Grove Avenue United Methodist Church. He was the oldest surviving member and former officer of the Johnstown’s Retired Mens’ Club. Friends received 2-8 PM Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Thursday. Entombment with military rites by Menoher Post #155, VFW Ritual Team.
