Purbaugh – Frank W., ”Perry”, 89, of Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2016 at Arbutus Park Manor. Born on March 12, 1926 in Akron, OH, son of Charles W. and Mary J. (Miller) Purbaugh. Preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis R.,; great grandson, Cody Minick and a sister, Maxine Blough. Perry is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Elaine D. (Freeman) Purbaugh, Richland Township; son, Dr. Terry L. Purbaugh and his wife, Dr. Christine Burns, Wellesley, MA, daughter, Renee K., wife of John Callihan, Richland Township; grandchildren, Jill (Matt) Minick, Williamsburg, VA, Justine (John) Morin, Boston, MA, Elyse Purbaugh, Boston, MA, Sean (Courtney) Callihan, Cary, NC, Shannon (Joseph) Bradley, Richland Township, and Jennifer Purbaugh, Johnstown; great grandchildren, Casey Minick, Lauren and Lindsay Callihan, Ireland, Callihan, Finegan, and Hagen Bradley and other special family members. Perry was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII, where he served on the USS Bataan and also served with the 876th Tank Battalion in the Army National Guard. He retired from US Steel after 35 years of service as a Carpenter. Perry was a member of Arbutus Church of the Brethren, where he served as a past Deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and was an avid golfer. Perry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was truly a kind and gentle giant. Perry’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Arbutus Park Manor, Cross Roads, and AseraCare Hospice for their loving care. At Frank’s request there will be no public viewing. A private service will be held at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Barron K. Deffenbaugh officiating. Private interment will be at Oak Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to Arbutus Church of the Brethren, 1201 Erickson Drive, Johnstown, PA 15904 or Arbutus Park Manor, Cross Roads Unit, 207 Ottawa Street, Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Frank.
