Cummins – Frank P., 94, Richland Township, died on December 5, 2016 at Windber Hospital. Born on May 6, 1922 in Johnstown, son of the late Harry F. Cummins and the late Josephine M. (Pfaff) Connor. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Loretta H. (Kiley) Cummins, Richland Township; daughter, Charlene Cummins Azar (David), Richland Township; son, Thomas J., (Sukyong) Cummins, Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Benjamin D. Azar; Samuel A. Cummins, Timothy A. (Sonia) Cummins, Joshua B. Cummins; great grandchildren, Carlos and Kiley Cummins, and many nieces and nephews. Frank graduated from Dale High School in 1940, enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942, and was commissioned in 1943, serving as a navigator on B-17s during WWII. In civilian life, Frank was the first Program Director for WJAC-TV, helping to grow the television station for decades, retiring and moving to California, and then New Mexico, with his wife, Loretta. His military life continued after the war, where he remained immersed in the Air Force Reserve, serving as commander of the 9204th Air Force Reserve Squadron in Johnstown, attaining the rank of colonel. He also served as Liaison Officer for the Air Force Academy. Mr. Cummins was an officer and a gentleman all of his life. He displayed ‘Old Glory’ and retired the Colors faithfully before sundown each day all of his adult life. He was devoted to his family and spent his final years honoring local WWII veterans with plaques of recognition for their service, and faithfully caring for his wife in their home with the help of Windber Hospice personnel and volunteers. His favorite phrase was, “This, too, shall pass.” At Frank’s request, there will be no public viewing or service. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Contributions may be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 in memory of Frank.
