Machik - Evelyn L. “Evie”, 91, Johnstown, PA, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 29 at Conemaugh Medical Center surrounded by loving family. Born August 23, 1929 in Johnstown, daughter of Edward and Cleda (Strayer) Grata. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Ted and Ray. Survived by husband of 65 years, Peter; daughter, Pamela Erney (Stephen); beautiful Gram to Erin Forde (Hugh) and loving Grammy to three great-grandsons, Luke, Sean, and Paul who will forever be “her babies.” Survived by brother, Larry and sister-in-law, Shirley; sisters-in-law, Gloria Grata and Mary Lou Gmuca. Also survived by special nieces and nephews, as well as, loving great nieces and nephews, a great-great nephew and niece. Evie worked at the Bureau of Mines (MSHA) for over 25 years. She was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church, their Challenger’s Class and the United Methodist Women. Evie left an indelible mark on those who knew and loved her. From teaching the tiniest of hands to crimp the most perfect pierogi, from pruning her delicate and beautiful rose bushes, to wrapping the loveliest gifts in ribbon and bows, everything she touched was beautiful and no detail was ever left out.  She was as organized as they came, her quick wit would keep you in stitches, and her laugh, the way she would clasp her hands and tilt her head would light the darkest of days. Her tremendous love and pride for her family, of tradition, were unmatched.  We will love her for eternity and miss her forever. Due to the COVID-19 situation, a private family service will be held Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Pastor Wanick Fayette, Officiating. Private interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or Variety Child Learning Center, ATT: Development Department, 47 Humphrey Dr., Syosset, NY 11791 in memory of Evelyn Machik.
