Erwin â Esther R., 93, East Taylor Township, entered into eternal peace on Monday, April 6, 2015, at her home. Born on December 2, 1921 in Johnstown, daughter of John L. and Iva Z. (Miller) Erwin. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jesse, Benjamin, Obert, and John; sisters, Genevieve Moose, Hazel Walker, Laura Jane DeVore, and Ada Romanchak. She is survived by her loving siblings, Betty Zapatochny, Naperville, IL, Marlene Davis, Dupont, WA, Verl Erwin, Shelby Township, MI, and George Erwin, Greenville, PA and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Esther was a 1944 graduate of East Conemaugh High School and then completed nursing training at Memorial Hospital. She entered military service in 1945. Esther retired in 1965 as a Major in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp serving during the Korean War. She later retired in 1990 from Mercy Hospital after 20 years of service as a Registered Nurse. Esther was a longtime member of the Conemaugh First United Methodist Church. She was a supporter of the East Taylor Volunteer Fire Department and the East Taylor Ambulance Association. Esther was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She loved her entire family and will be remembered as a caring and compassionate sister, aunt and friend. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Saturday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, with the Rev. David C. McGee officiating. Interment will be at Headrick Union Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to Conemaugh First United Methodist Church, 414 First Street, Conemaugh, PA 15909 in memory of Esther.
