Gertz, Ernest E., "Ernie", 86, of Richland Township. Went to be with the Lord September 13, 2015 at his home. Born December 16, 1928 in Johnstown. Son of the late Gustav and Albertina Gertz. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Ethel (Stanish); sisters, Helen (Casker) and Margaret (Ford); brother, Robert Gertz; Brother in Law, Donald Stanish; and Nephew Ronald Ford. Brother of William (Lois) Gertz and sister, Ruth Coleman. Brother in Law of Peggy Stanish. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. “Poppy” to Ava and Drew Zucco, children of Kathleen Martella-Zucco and David Zucco. Ernie was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church. Retired co-owner of Young American Furniture. Decorated Army Veteran serving in M Company, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. Honorably discharged after bravely serving his country in the Korean War from 1951-1952. Also a member of the Korean War Veterans, Richland American Legion Post 849 and Solomon Run Volunteer Fireman’s Club. Life Member of Menoher Post 155 VFW and B.P.O.E. Lodge 175. Ernie was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and “Poppy,” who will be sadly missed. Friends received 3-7 PM Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Michael Van Dyke, officiating. Entombment at Grandview Mausoleum.
