Elma J. Koon

Koon – Elma J., 96, Moxham, formerly of Benshoff Hill, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 3, 2019. Born on June 6, 1922 in Johnstown, daughter of Theodore W. and Ivy I. (Metzger) Hunt. Preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, James T. Koon; infant daughter, Marsha M. Koon; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Koon; siblings, John Hunt, Maxine Lehman, and an infant sister, Evana Hunt. She is survived by her loving sons, Dennis W. Koon, Davidsville and James D. Koon (Raymond G. Shrift) both of Johnstown; grandchildren, Joseph J. (Anna) Koon, Boston, MA, Cyndi D. Koon and her husband, Matt Holm, both of New Paltz, NY, Matthew J. Koon, Willow Spring, NC, and Eric T. Koon, Holly Springs, NC; great grandchildren, Bryce T. and Ellie M. Koon, both of Holly Springs, NC; sisters, Lois Leidy, Albuquerque, NM, and Sara Jean Snyder, Johnstown and numerous nieces and nephews. Elma was a 1938 graduate of Conemaugh High School. She retired from Johnstown Bank and Trust after 20 years of service as a Teller in the main office. Elma was a member of Moxham Church of the Brethren and the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her late husband, Jim moved to Daytona Beach, FL in 1977 after they retired and returned in 1997 to be with family. Elma enjoyed baking, cooking and entertaining her family and friends. Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Daniel Rhodes officiating. Private interment will be at Benshoff Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Elma.
