Smith, Edward L., 97, of Richland. Died Nov. 11, 2014, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born May 19 1917 in Johnstown. Son of the late Edward J. and Florence (Lee) Smith. Also preceded in death by wife, Rose Vivian. Survived by son Jeffrey L., married to the former Barbara L. Matvya, Bridgeville, PA; daughter, Judith A., wife of Philip E. Staib, Johnstown;  and son James E. , married to the former Peggy Tolle, Cranberry Township, Pa. Grandchildren; Christopher, Mark, Nick, Joshua, Nathan, Lucas, and Colton ; great grandchildren, Chloe Rose and Piper Lee. 1935 graduate of Westmont High School and 1937 graduate of Cambria Rowe Business College. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having flown 33 missions on a B24 “Liberator”. Retired production clerk from Bethlehem Steel Corp. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the BPOE Lodge #175, Geistown. Ed faithfully attended the Saturday morning prayer breakfast at Bethany UM Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed. Friends received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday Nov. 17, at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland where Vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Benedict Church. Fr.David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal at Grandview Cemetery with military rites by Conemaugh Valley Detachment, Marine Corps League.
