Edward R. Friedel

Friedel – Edward R., 85, Richland, went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2023 at Arbutus Park Manor. Born on June 28, 1938 in Johnstown, son of the late Jack E. and Kathryn (Sievers) Friedel.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kathleen A. (Kirkpatrick) Friedel; children, Diana L. (Robert) Zaman, Portage, Lorrie A. (Jeff) Smith, Summerhill, Rebecca A. (David) Shifrel, Margate, FL, Melissa M. (Vince) Barone, Oakdale, PA, and Edward J., Johnstown; grandchildren, Stephanie (Frank) Hawkins, VA, Jennifer Zaman, Portage, Brianna Shifrel, Margate, FL, Ashley Smith, Largo, FL, Nathan Shifrel, Orlando, FL, 1^st Lt. Carl Smith, Summerhill, Casey Shifrel, Fort Myers, FL, Sarah Shifrel, Margate, FL, and Rheece Baron, Oakdale, PA; great-grandchildren, Alexa Hawkins, Kirsten Kyle, and Logan Hawkins; sister, Doris (Wilbert) Caddy, Johnstown, and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was a 1956 graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Ed retired from the Johnstown Tribune Democrat after 45 years of service as a printer. He also was President and Secretary/Treasurer for Typographical Union #14815/137. Ed was a member of the Richland American Legion Post # 0849. He enjoyed working on his computer, but mostly loved spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Earl Butterfield officiating. Interment will be at Richland Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to Arbutus Park Manor, Cross Roads Unit, 207 Ottawa Street, Johnstown, PA 15904 or to Beaverdale Public Library, P.O.
