Dr. Thomas J. Cardellino, Jr.

d. February 19, 2021

Cardellino, Dr. Thomas J. Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at his home on February 19, 2021 after battling Lymphoma for nearly two years.  Born on December 16, 1938 in Johnstown, son of Thomas Cardellino Sr. (“Tommy the Tailor”) and Margaret (McMullen).  Preceded in death by his parents and sister Joanne Polke.  Survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 40 years Deborah (Mayer) Cardellino; daughters Terri Cardellino, Ventura, CA; Natalie (John) Livella, Davidsville; Patty Cardellino (Scott Beveridge), Ventura, CA; Lori Cardellino, Ventura, CA; Jacqueline (Christopher) Reagan, Orlando, FL; and Dr. Christie Cardellino (Ryan Gindlesperger), Richland Township; grandchildren Jeremy (Jen) Cardellino; Abbie and Noah Livella; Jacobi Cardellino; Riley, Madilyn and Ellie Gindlesperger; sister Judith (Fred Sr.) Raco; great grandson Logan Cardellino; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Tom was a 1956 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School where he was president of his class.  He was a 1959 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and went on to receive his medical degree from Loyola University in Chicago in 1963.  Tom loved being a cardiologist.  A consummate physician, he was dedicated to providing the best care possible for his patients.  He rarely missed a day of work, because for him it wasn’t work.  His sense of responsibility and fairness earned him tremendous respect and admiration among his colleagues and staff.  Tom loved watching football with a cold beer in his hand, surrounded by friends and family.  He was jovial and lighthearted, always quick to laugh (often uncontrollably) or share a smile.  Tom was a lifelong member of Windber Country Club where he was affectionately known as “Tommy 2 Gloves”.  He enjoyed golfing with friends especially Frank Gorgone, Bob Symon and Ernie Gertz. Tom was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Geistown.  He loved his family.  A loving husband, a caring and supportive father, and friend to many.  Tom loved deeply, gave generously and asked for little in return.  He will be terribly missed and forever loved.  A public viewing will be held at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, on Tuesday Feb. 23 from 3 to 8 pm where Vigil Service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Wednesday at St. Benedict Church. Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum.
