Dr. Walker, Alvy A., 87, Somerset, formerly of Richland Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and sister-in-law on October 4, 2014 at In Touch Hospice House, Somerset. Born on January 9, 1927 in Windber, son of Allison A. and Kathryn (MacDonald) Walker. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis Blansett. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Shirley I. (Nagle) Walker, Somerset; father-in-law, Clarence P. Nagle, Somerset; beloved son, Thomas J. Walker, Windber; son, Alvy âBiffâ A. Walker Jr., WV; daughter, Alison K., wife of Jeff Lee, Richland Township; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Donna M. (Kenneth) Lubinsky, Sarasota, FL, Patricia A. (Richard) Speicher, Debary, FL, and Linda F. Baumgardner and Robert Lushko, both of Richland Township; brother-in-law, David M. (Storm) Nagle, Richland Township; several nieces, nephews, including special nephew, Scott Blansett, Greensburg; beloved cats, Nittany and Nosey. Alvy was a 1944 graduate of Windber High School. He was a graduate of Penn State University and later graduated from the Pennsylvania State College of Optometry in 1951. Alvy was a US Navy Veteran serving during WW II. He retired after many years as an Optometrist in Geistown Borough and East Conemaugh Borough. Alvy was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church; life member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #175, Johnstown; the Bedford American Legion Post #113 and past member of Windber Country Club. He was a sponsor of Dr. Walkerâs AAABA Baseball Team in 1980. He enjoyed playing golf, watching Penn State Football, Steelers and the Pirates. Alvy enjoyed life to the fullest and did it his way. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Custeads officiating. Interment will be at Richland Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team.
