Gohn - Donald O., 87, Richland, passed away Oct. 15, 2016 at home. Born Nov. 4, 1928 in Windber. Son of Adam and Ruth (Hagan-Latchow) Gohn. Preceded in death by parents, wife, Lowella Dobbins and stepson Joseph Buschko. Survived by wife, Ona (Buschko-Anderson) Gohn; sister, Phyllis (John) McGowan, Riverdale, MD; daughters, Claudia (Charles) Rutledge, Panama City, FL, and Debra (Ted) Soloweigh, Windber; stepdaughter, Mary Kay (Richard) Russell, Johnstown; stepsons, Jon (Kathleen) Buschko, Phoenix, AZ, Michael (Mary Jo) Buschko, Dover, DE, and Nicholas (April) Buschko, Seattle, WA; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Don was a proud Navy Veteran serving during WWII and a Windber fireman for 25 years. He was a surveyor for Berwind Land & Coal Company for over 36 years and knew every inch of Cambria and Somerset County above and below ground. Don loved hunting and fishing with friends in his younger years and had a passion for motor cycles. When he could no longer handle his Honda Gold Wing, he ordered "training wheels" and enjoyed many more years of touring never missing the Thunder in the Valley parade. Don was also a talented craftsman creating beautiful hand loomed rugs and table runners and was often a fixture at craft shows. He also had a love of dancing including square, clogging and ballroom. Don and Ona were members of Track II Squares and Horseshoe Cloggers for many years and could be spotted dancing for various events around town. It was not unusual to see them teaching young folks a new country line dance. Don and Ona went on many cruises, visited all 50 states, and 6 countries. Most importantly, Don was a loving and devoted husband and father. He will be sadly missed by many. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at Richland Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. Don’s family requests contributions be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 in memory of Don. On line condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
