Denise L. Hayes

Hayes - Denise L., 77, of Geistown, went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2016 at her residence. She was born on December 13, 1938, in Elton, daughter of the late Ortha L. and Rose B. (Lehman) Weaver. Also preceded in death by siblings; Dwight, Donald and Jack Weaver. Survived by her loving husband and best friend of 59 years, Jim Hayes, Geistown Borough; children, Susan, wife of Jeff Penrod, Richland Township and Douglas, Brooklyn, NY; granddaughter, Emily Penrod, Richland Township. Sister of Dorothy L. Hershberger, Richland Township; and Duane (Ileen) Weaver, Mt. Joy, PA. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Denise was a 1956 graduate of Adams Township High School. A life-long and dedicated member of Scalp Level Church of the Brethren, where she served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, board member and various committees. She volunteered at New Day, Inc. and served with Windber Hospice as a volunteer for 20 years. Denise was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Friends will be received 3-7 p.m. on Tuesday, with a Deacon service to follow at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. An additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Scalp Level Church of the Brethren, with the Pastor Ronald J. St. Clair, officiating. Entombment will be at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. Family suggests donations to Scalp Level Church of the Brethren Deacon Fund, New Day, Inc. or Windber Hospice in memory of Denise.
