Delores M. "Dee" Crouse-Saylor

SAYLOR-CROUSE– Delores M. “Dee,” 91, Johnstown, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021 at home. Born on May 24, 1929 in Johnstown, daughter of Robert and Susie Strait. Preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Crouse and second husband, Robert Saylor, brother, Russell Strait, grandson, Kurt Crouse and great-grandson, Brody Peterson. She is survived by her son, Douglas Crouse (Debbie) and daughter, Jacalyn Galuska (Dwayne) of Johnstown; and her brother, Jack Strait (Sally) of Johnstown.  There are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her step-children, Linford Saylor (Diane), Betsy Holland, and Joan Robinson (Dennis) and seven step-great-grandchildren. Dee was a 1946 graduate of Dale High School. She retired from the Western District Office of the Church of the Brethren.  She was previously employed by the Ferndale Area School District as a teacher’s aide, and by Strand Laboratory as a secretary.   She loved sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers, and formerly bowled at Richland Lanes, senior league, but more than anything, enjoyed attending the baseball, basketball, and volleyball games of her grandsons over the years, often stating those were among the happiest times of her life. She was a very giving person, and spent many years volunteering at several places, including New Day, Windber Hospice, and Cambria City Mission. She was a long-time member of the Tire Hill Church of the Brethren, where she was very active. There will be no viewing at her request.  Memorial service will be held at the Tire Hill Church of the Brethren on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11 o’clock a.m. with Revs. Jack Rupert and Brian Simmons officiating. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to New Day, Inc., 109 South Street, Johnstown, PA 15901 or the Humane Society of Cambria County, 743 Galleria Drive Ext., Johnstown, PA 15904, in memory of Delores.  The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
