“Bugs”, 83, of Richland Township. Went to be with the Lord on Jan. 31, 2019, at Conemaugh Medical Center after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born June 10, 1935, in Coal Run, Somerset County, PA. Son of the late Clarence A. and Thelma (Dutton) Showalter. Also preceded in death by first wife of 37 years, Dorothy A. (Nemcek); second wife of 8 years, Doris (Oldham); and sisters Phyllis Cook and Betty Starnes. Survived by sons, Donald H. (Deborah), Denver, CO, and Stephen M. (Belinda), Hollsopple, PA.; grandchildren, Stephen J. (Ashlee), Lindsey (Levi) Wert, and Britton (Melissa); great-grandchildren, Riley Wert and Everleigh Showalter. Brother of Deborah Hoffman; brother and sisters in law; and numerous extended family members. 1953 graduate of Richland High School. Served in the PA National Guard, 28th Infantry Division, 628th Tank Battalion, 1 / 103rd Armor Regiment. Retired roofing/sheet metal foreman in the area for over 40 years. Member of Moxham Church of the Brethren, 103rd Armor Reunion Assoc., where he served as caretaker of the War Memorial wall name plaques for over 35 years, Richland American Legion Post #849, Menoher Post #155 VFW, Life Member of Solomon Run Vol. Fire Co. and NRA. Was a good father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family, and a good friend to all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He enjoyed traveling across the country to visit family. Will be sadly missed by his family and friends, especially his “little buddy” Rukus. The family wishes to thank the UPMC Cancer Center, Dr. Awan, Dr. Stotler, Dr. Beatty, the Conemaugh Palliative and Hospice Health Care providers. Friends received Sunday 2-6 PM and Monday 10 AM to time of service at 11 AM at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, Pastor Dan Rhodes, officiating. Interment at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Windber with military rites by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. (Online condolences may be posted to (www.wharrisfuneralhome.com)
