Charles J. Sloan

Sloan, Charles J., 87, of Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2015, at Laurelwood Care Center. Born on January 31, 1928, in Johnstown, son of the late Christopher and Clara (Gray) Sloan. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Althea J. (Kacur) Sloan, and these brothers and sisters; Clara Jane Mauro, Agnes Fisher, and George Sloan. Survived by sons; James C., married to the former Jan Eley, of Richmond, VA; and Thomas W., married to the former Karen Geary, of Shrewsbury, PA. Grandchildren; Justin C. Sloan and wife Karin, of North Bethany Beach, DE, Jessica M. Tilley and husband Laurence, of Durham, NC, Brad T. Sloan and wife Ashley, of Watertown, MA, and Erika A. Sloan of Brighton, MA. Great granddaughters; Susan Tilley and Keaton Sloan and several nieces and nephews. Charlie was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a 1946 graduate of Johnstown High School. Charlie was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and the Korean War. He was formerly employed by United States Steel Corporation. Charlie was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, since 1957. He was an avid fan of the Pirates, the Steelers, Pitt, and Penn State. Charlie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Friends received from 10 a.m. until time of Prayer Service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Charles.
