Mackel, Charles Roger Sr., 85, of East Taylor Township, passed away on January 13, 2014 at his residence. He was born on December 28, 1928 in Johnstown. Son of Charles S. and Marian (Hildebrand) Mackel. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, A. Margaret son, Charles R. Mackel Jr.; sisters, Twila Walk and Phyllis Sumner; brother, Bill and a sister-in-law, Mary J. Bloom. Survived by his sons, Paul W. and his girl friend, Karen Markel both of Altoona and William E., State College; grandsons, Charles Stephens and his fiancé, Lisa Edwards both of East Taylor Township, Daniel J. Mackel, Virginia Beach, VA, William A. Mackel, Johnstown, and Stephen R. Mackel, East Taylor Township; great grandson, Shane M. Stephens, East Taylor Township; brother, Richard (Sue) Mackel, GA; sister, Pam Mackel, Dale Borough; several nieces, nephews; former daughter-in-law, Geraldine O. (Cecil) Cole, Dale Borough and special care giver, Trisha Stephens, East Conemaugh. Charles was a graduate of Conemaugh High School. He was a member of Conemaugh Grace Brethren Church and attended Pike Grace Brethren Church where he and his wife assisted with the AWANA Program. Charles enjoyed reading, gardening and short wave communications. He will be remembered as a kind and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Friends will be received from 3-7 P.M. on Thursday and from 9 A.M. until time of service at 10 A.M. on Friday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh with the Pastor Rudy Sheptock officiating.
