Ickes, Charles R. Sr., 89, Richland Township. Went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2012, at Windber Medical Center. He was born on April 20, 1923, in Johnstown. Son of the late Roy and Irene ( Sellers) Ickes. Also preceded in death by siblings, Mildred Layton, Margaret Rawlings, Robert and Kenneth . Survived by spouse, Betty Ann (Saydak). Children: Ann B. Jones, wife of Ronald P. Jones, Richland: Pamela J. Penatzer, wife of Charles Penatzer, Richland: Charles R. Ickes Jr, married to the former Cynthia M. Bennett, Cover Hill. Grandchildren: Bradley P. Jones, Andrea E. Stupi, Amanda Slaventa, Joshua Penatzer, Cayla Penatzer, Courtney Ickes and Charles R. Ickes III. Great grandchildren: Dylan Slaventa, Benjamin Jones and Andrew Stupi. Brother of Carl and Becky Ickes, Hollsopple. Retired in 1986 from GTE after 36 ½ years of service. Army/Air Force veteran of World War II. Member of First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine Street, Johnstown, PA. Avid bowler at Richland Lanes, belonging to several leagues. Played softball with city league for McCaffrey Insurance. Member Oakbrook Golf Course for approximately 18 years, where he shot a hole in one on number 16 at the age of 82. Great and loving husband, father and grandfather. Former member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Charlesâs family would like to thank the staff and friends at the Church of the Brethren Home. Family and friends will be received from 2-8 P.M. on Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and from 10 A.M. until time of service at 11 A.M. on Monday at the First Lutheran Church, With the Rev.
