Mahan, Carl L., 84, of Upper Yoder Township, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 13, 2016, at LaurelWood Care Center.  Born on March 10, 1932 in Johnstown, son of Lester and Mary (Karcher) Mahan. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Mahan and brother in law, Ray Boes and sister in law, Virginia Dishong. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joann L. (Gyan) Mahan; sister, Ruth Boes, Geistown; and several nieces and nephews. Carl was a 1951 graduate of former Johnstown Catholic High School. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Carl retired from Bethlehem Steel after 28 years of service, where he was employed in the office. He was a former member of Visitation of the BVM Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Holy Name Society. Carl was presently a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Johnstown Cursillo Movement Prison Ministry for which he received the volunteer of the year award in 2003; BPOE Lodge #175; Ancient Order of Hibernians; St. Padre Pio Prayer Group; the Johnstown Rod and Gun Club; Moxham Old Timers; Johnstown Men’s Club; Johnstown Camera Club; Richland American Legion Post #846, Charles J. Hanley Post #1103 and President of T.P.A. Carl was well known in Johnstown and vicinity for establishing the first Venetian Blind and Manufacturing Company, with his father, in the 1950’s. He enjoyed fishing and photography. Carl loved life, traveling and taking cruises with his wife, Joann. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Father Walter Moll, officiating. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 609 Park Ave Johnstown, PA 15902 in memory of Carl. On line condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
