Ickes, Betty Ann., 85, Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2016, at The Church of the Brethren Home, Windber. She was born on September 30, 1930, in Johnstown. Daughter of the late Andrew and Christine (Klanduch) Saydak. Also preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Ickes Sr.; siblings, Ethel Friedman, Eleanor Theys, Irene Shaffer and an infant brother; brothers-in-law, Ronald Friedman, John Theys, Russell Shaffer, Charles Kabler, and Ramon Harris. Survived by loving children, Ann B. Jones, wife of Ronald P. Jones, Richland, Pamela J. Penatzer, wife of Charles R. Penatzer, Richland,  Charles R. Ickes Jr., married to the former Cynthia M. Bennett, Cover Hill; grandchildren, Bradley P. Jones, Andrea E. Stupi, Amanda Slaventa, Joshua Penatzer, Cayla Penatzer, Courtney Ickes and Charles R. Ickes III; great grandchildren: Dylan Slaventa, Benjamin and Addison Jones, and Andrew Stupi; sisters, Mary Kabler, Paint Township and Evelyn Harris, Russell, PA; brother-in-law, Carl and Becky Ickes, Davidsville and several nieces and nephews. Betty was employed at Glosser Brothers as a Bookkeeper and later worked for several years for Richland School District in the cafeteria. She also volunteered at the former Lee Hospital for 16 years. Betty was a member of First Lutheran Church and a former member of Oakland United Methodist Church and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Happy Bowlers at Richland Lanes for many years. Betty enjoyed spending time with her entire family, who have many memories with her as a loving mother and grandmother and great-grandmother. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s games, dance recitals and other activities. Her family would like to thank the staff and friends at the Church of the Brethren Home. Family and friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Monday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lynne O’Shea officiating. Interment will be at Richland Cemetery. On line condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
