Betty Ruth Custer

Custer - Betty Ruth (Noon), 88, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at The Tribute at Heritage Village in Gainesville, Virginia. She had been in hospice care for several months. Betty was born in Salix on April 29, 1929, the daughter of Sanford J. Noon and Esther (Miller) Noon. She married John William Custer of Ogletown in July 1950. She is survived by her brother: Clarence (Tom) Noon of Salix; two sons and a daughter: Randy married to Adrie (Sardonia) of Arlington, VA; Jeffrey married to Lisa (Davis) of Gainesville, VA; and Brenda married to Charlie Johnson of Benson, NC; also by seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Zachary, Joshua, Hannah, Rebecca, Sarah, and Abigail. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Custer; a brother, Harry Noon; and a sister, Carrie (Noon) Meier. Betty worked more than 35 years in the banking industry, in Falls Church VA, before retiring in 1992. She enjoyed her family and friends, making crafts, attending and holding yard sales, collecting dolls, and baking cookies. Her annual holiday cookie spread for her family included more than 20 different types of delicious treats. She was also an accomplished gardener. Friends will be received, Friday, September 15, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, September 16, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Inurnment will be at Dunmyer Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the ASPCA, or the charity of your choice in memory of Betty.
