Bertha D. Horten

Horten, Bertha D., 92, Adams Twp. Passed away Dec. 13, 2014, at Richland Woods. Born June 9, 1922, in Johnstown. Daughter of the late Otto and Gunda (Fortsch) Zips. Preceded in death by husband of 68 years, Robert W. Horten who died Nov. 18, 2014; sister, Florence M. Zips; father and mother in law, Robert J. and Anna G. (Burns) Horten; brother and sister in law, Donald J. and Bernadette M. (Held) Horten. Survived by son, Robert W. Jr. married to B. Darlene (Johnson), Adams Twp; and brother and sister in law, Andrew K. and Anna F. (Horten) Metro, Venice, FL.; several nieces and nephews and good friend, Josephine Armstrong.  Bertha was a graduate of Dale High School. Past member of former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Johnstown. Current member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber. She enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing and was an original member of the Rise and Stride Walking Club. Bertha volunteered for the Salvation Army for many years. Friends received from 3-8 PM Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Windber. Fr. Rod Soha, T.O.R. Committal at St. Joseph Cemetery, Geistown.
