Smith, Amelia J. (Pierce), âJanieâ, 81, of Windber passed away on February 7, 2011 at her residence. She was born on October 30, 1929 in Jeannette. Janie was the daughter of the late William R. Sr. and Ethel Pierce. Survived by her loving friend and companion, Joseph Maffe Jr., Windber; daughter, Christy Ross, Kansas City, MO; brother, William R. Pierce Jr., Zephyrhills, FL and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Sally Foster, Encinitas, CA. Janie was a graduate of Jeannette High School. She then graduated from Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh as an RN and later continued her studies completing her CRNA in Westmoreland Hospital and Latrobe Hospital. After moving to Windber in 1971, Janie was employed at Windber Hospital and retired from the Good Samaritan Hospital as an anesthetist. Janie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and traveling. She will be remembered as a beautiful woman in all ways. Friends will be received from 3-7 P.M. on Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday at Jeannette Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Pickett officiating. The family suggests donations be made to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA 15926 in memory of Amelia Smith.
