Taylor - Alice Dorothy transitioned to her heavenly home at the age of 97 on October 8, 2023, at Oak Hill Rehabilitation Center in Middletown, PA. Dorothy was the eldest of 5 children born to Reverend Benjamin J. Moore and Anna Clara (Sims) Moore on March 8, 1926 in Johnstown, PA. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 43 years James L. Taylor, parents Reverend Benjamin J. Moore, mother Anna Clara (Sims) Moore, brothers William Moore and Benjamin Moore Jr, sisters Geneva Street and Carrie Gibson, son Courtney Taylor, daughter Deborah Taylor and grandson Chiedazo Hardrick. Mrs. Taylor leaves to celebrate her life her children Gregory Leroy Taylor, Rita Gay Burhannan (Robert), Frank Benard Taylor and Mindy Debrita Fuller (Anthony) and grand-children Brian Hill, Nekka Hardrick, Gregory Taylor Jr., Adreece Taylor, Shawn Taylor, Michelle Taylor, Larry Callaway, Marvell Callaway, Debrita Callaway, Randall Callaway, Tate Taylor, Pryceless Fuller, thirty-four great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. She is survived and beloved by a host of Nephews and Nieces including: Kathryn Hall, William Moore, Calvin Moore, Tracey Victor, Annette Clara Warren, Havard (Joe) Jackson, Beatrice Jackson, Yvonne Cooper, JoAnn Jackson, Roberta Jackson, Dwight Gibson, and Benjamin Gibson. Also beloved by Cousin Gwendolyn Hemphill and her “adopted” daughter Kelly Boykin. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church of Johnstown, PA where she is the mother of the church. Upon moving to Harrisburg in her later years she became a member of Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church. Her service to Christ included being a missionary for over 25 years in the Missionary Circle, being an original member of the Young Adult Chorus, Senior Choir member and Co-Chair of Women’s Day. Her employment history included working as a Tabulating Machine Operator for the Social Security Administration during World War II and working as a housekeeper for private families and other businesses including U.S. Steel in Johnstown, PA, from 1971 until her retirement in 1981. After retirement, she continued to serve as a home health care aide and a foster grandparent to children in local daycare for many years. The name “Dorothy” means “gift from God. And she had a relationship with the Lord early in her childhood. She was often heard praying for her siblings when they would have disagreements. Alice Dorothy Taylor lived a life of sacrifice. At age 15, she quit school to help her Mother take care of her younger siblings after the death of her father. Two of her siblings went on to accomplish college degrees. She ministered to many from her porch on 748 Napoleon Street offering counseling, wisdom and accountability. She was a determined woman and never forgot about her education, receiving her High School Diploma from Greater Johnstown Vocational Technical School in 1983. Her legacy includes leading her family to Christ whom she depended on solely. Dorothy was a virtuous woman whose price was far above rubies. She revered her Lord and Savior and protected and instructed her family instilling the 91st Psalms as the Taylor Family bible verse. Dorothy loved her family dearly and dedicated her life to each one. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and love. We, her family, rise up and call her blessed!
THE FINAL HOMEGOING SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 11 A.M., WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2023, AT MT. SINAI INSTITUTIONAL BAPTIST CHURCH, 351 2ND STREET, CONEMAUGH, PA 15909, WITH VIEWING AT 10 A.M. BURIAL WILL BE AT GRANDVIEW CEMETERY, JOHNSTOWN, PA.
