Alex Refi

Refi, Alex, “Chibbi”, 86, of Ephrata, PA, formerly of Adams Township, died on February 24, 2015, at his residence. Born June 18, 1928 in Windber. Son of the late Alexander and Helen (Nemeth) Refi. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy A. (Wingard) Refi and sisters, Irene Doody, Ethel Jordan, and Anna Cirillo. Survived by sons, Thomas, married to Elizabeth (Richard), Lebanon, PA. and James, married to Valerie (Palmer), Ephrata, PA; grandchildren, Timothy, Patrick, Daniel, Rene, Kimberly and Roxann. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret, wife of Calvin Seger, Loraine, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was a radio operator and an M.P. in the Army serving during WW II. In his early years, he worked on the rail road and was employed as a welder at Bethlehem Steel. He worked 27 years in the coal mines for Jandy Coal Company, UMWA, Member Local #6410, District 2. After retiring, he worked part time at the bus garage in Windber. Alex was a member of Scalp Level Church of the Brethren. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Alex was truly a jack of all trades, providing electrical, maintenance, plumbing, and automotive services for friends and family. He enjoyed playing cards at Ogletown Sporstsmen’s Club and playing pinochle with his family, including his sister and brother-in-law. Alex was an amazing individual who always had a knack for telling stories that would make you laugh. Friends received 3-7 p.m. on Friday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Scalp Level Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Ronald St. Clair, Officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the church on Saturday by Menoher Post #155 V.F.W. Ritual Team. Private interment will be at Berkey Cemetery.
